Zoran Zaev and Jens Stoltenberg sign agreement allowing Macedonia to open talks for accession to NATO

On July 11 NATO invited Macedonia to open talks for accession to the alliance. Today, Macedonia’s Premier Zoran Zaev and NATO’s Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg signed an official document allowing Macedonia and NATO to start membership negotiations. Macedonia has been participating actively in the missions of the alliance and contributed to the peace and stability in Afghanistan. Today, NATO demonstrates that its doors remain open, Jens Stoltenberg said. According to the document, the Republic of Macedonia will become a NATO member when the agreement resolving the naming dispute between FYROM and Greece enters into force and this country is renamed into the Republic of North Macedonia.
