Boyko Borissov and Klaus-Heiner Lehne discuss effectiveness of pre-accession funds for Western Balkans

Bulgaria’s Premier Boyko Borissov and the President of the European Court of Auditors Klaus-Heiner Lehne discussed in Sofia the effectiveness of the money of the pre-accession funds for the Western Balkan countries in the context of their integration into the EU. Premier Borissov pointed out that the European perspective of the region is linked with the investment of serious financial resource which has to assist policies such as strengthening the rule of law, administrative reform, environment and infrastructure. Between 2007 and 2020 EUR 8.7 billion will be allotted to the region for this purpose, Klaus-Heiner Lehne noted. Mr Lehne recommended that the future assistance should focus mainly on results in the fields of the rule of law and public administration.
