The minimum basic salary of a young Bulgarian teacher in Bulgaria amounts to EUR 389. We are planning to increase this salary to EUR 639 within a four year period when the average salary will be to the tune of EUR 767, Bulgaria’s Minister of Education and Science Krasimir Velchev announced. Minister Velchev pointed out that the shortage of teachers is alarming. The young teachers in Bulgaria are only 8% of all teachers and the average age of the Bulgarian teachers is 50. Each year over 4,000 teachers retire.
