Specialized Prosecutor's Office and the Directorate for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings have arrested an organized criminal group dealing with the production and distribution of counterfeit banknotes and personal documents, it was reported.

The operation started after information was received from Albania and was coordinated and assisted by Europol. The Bulgarian authorities have worked with colleagues from the United States, Dominica, Spain and Albania. Counterfeit Turkish, Danish and Spanish passports were found by police after a search of a room in Bulgaria’s Plovdiv, the special prosecution announced.

Seven people have already been charged. Most of them have criminal records.
