European Commission has called on Western Balkan countries to resolve their disputes

Serbia and Montenegro could be welcomed to the European Union in 2025 if they meet all the criteria. This is what the European Commission's strategy for a credible perspective and a stronger commitment of the EU to the Western Balkans envisages.

The strategy states that all countries in the region must unequivocally overcome the legacy of the past by achieving reconciliation and by resolving disputes with their neighbors.

From Serbia and Kosovo, the European Commission wants a comprehensive, legally binding settlement of bilateral issues. For Albania and Macedonia, Brussels is ready to recommend starting membership negotiations in 2019, according to met conditions.
