The local administration has prepared a total of 12 projects, among them a kindergarten, a chitalishte (community culture centre), and new water mains. In the words of municipality mayor Niridin Ismail, the application procedures for European programmes are very difficult:

“In the two months we had we prepared the projects and submitted them to the Agriculture Fund. We have signed contracts for two of them. During the winter we may sign all contracts, and then, next year, many things in the infrastructure of Hitrino will happen.”

One year after the tragedy that befell the village, when, on 10 December, 2016, a freight train derailed and exploded, destroying the train station and many houses, Christian and Muslim clerics got together to pray for the people of Hitrino. Four families will be given keys to their new homes, after they were destroyed in the blast.
