Brain diseases top cause of death in Bulgaria

Malignancies and heart diseases, as well as heart attacks are the most frequent cause of death among men and women in the EU. Cerebrovascular diseases such as strokes are also high on the list.

In 2015 diseases such as this have caused the deaths of 406 men and 314 women per 100,000 in Bulgaria. In the EU these figures stand at 93 men and 79 women. In Bulgaria malignancies have caused the death of 333 men and 179 women. With heart problems the mortality rate is 250 men and 153 women. In most member countries, more men than women say they are healthy, with this gap widening with age.
