Public media should rely on a long-term financial framework, so they can carry out their main functions, Director Media at the European Broadcasting Union Jean Philip De Tender told the Bulgarian National Radio on Sunday. According to the media expert, who has rich experience in the field of journalism and knows in details the European media environment, all types of interference in the work of the public media by the government are unacceptable. I know that the state budgets as well as the budgets of the public media are always under heavy pressure. That is why the public media may not be able to create as good content as they want. That is why the governments should understand that provision of enough money to the public media is of great importance. According to the members of the European Broadcasting Union an average of EUR 50 per capita should go for the budgets of the public media, but in some countries, including Bulgaria this financing is lower. The political parties should reach a consensus, which would guarantee that the money allotted to the public media is enough, Jean Philip De Tender went on to say.
