On October 14 the Bulgarian Orthodox Church marks Saint Petka’s Day, also known as Petkovden. According to Bulgarian beliefs, Petkovden marks the transition to winter. It is believed that St. Petka is a protector of home and family. Petkovden also marks the end of the agricultural work. Offerings for health and fertility are traditionally made on this day.
