There should be a high representative for food safety in each EU member state, the EU Commissioner for Health and Food Safety Vytenis Andriukaitis has proposed on occasion of the distribution of eggs contaminated with fipronil in many EU countries, including Bulgaria. Commissioner Andriukaitis specified that this idea has been subject to discussions. Earlier EU Commissioner for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality Vera Jourova said food quality cannot be different in different parts of Europe and added that the EU has been developing a common methodology for testing products. Bulgaria and other countries from Central and Eastern Europe demanded a general legal mechanism in the EU, which has to prevent the double standard in food products.
