Bulgaria’s women’s national volleyball team missed the opportunity of qualifying directly for the quarterfinals of the European championship in Azerbaijan and Georgia.
The Bulgarian team started out with a 2-1 lead, but then lost dramatically to the champion Russia by с 2-3 (25-21, 20-25, 25-23, 21-25, 13-15) in the last match from Group C, played to an audience of around 2,000 in the national gymnastics arena in Baku. Thus they come second in the final standings with 2 wins, 1 loss and 5 points and will be playing in the playoffs for Eurovolley 2017. In the playoffs they will be playing versus the 3rd team from Group A – which team that will be will become clear after the Azerbaijan-Germany match later this evening.
