Record civil claims in Sarafovo Airport terrorist attack case

Civil claims  worth close to 110 million euro have been lodged by the surviving victims and by the heirs of those killed in the blast at Burgas (Sarafovo) Airport on 18 July 2012. Five Israeli tourists and a Bulgarian national died in the blast. The Prosecutor’s Office and the official solicitors of Lebanese nationals Meliad Farah and Hassan al-Haj both tried in absentia, have admitted that the claimed compensations’ amount is record for the Bulgarian standards. The Specialized Criminal Court has rejected the demand of claimants to constitute the military wing of Hezbollah as a civil defendant in the case. The Court has refused to do so for the lack of evidence that the two defendants have anything in common with that organization.
