Migration pressure on Bulgaria decreases by 70%

Migration pressure on Bulgaria decreased by 70% in the recent months as a result of the efforts of the Bulgarian authorities, the financial assistance provided by the EU and the border fence constructed at the Bulgaria-Turkey border, Bulgaria’s Minister of Interior Valentin Radev said after the EU Justice and Home Affairs Council meeting held in Brussels. After the closure of the Balkan migration route, the migration pressure through the Black Sea has increased slightly. The EU-Turkey readmission agreement is working effectively and Turkey receives even illegal migrants detained in international waters in their attempt to reach Romania, as well as all failed asylum seekers, Bulgaria’s Interior Minister Radev pointed out.
