After the negotiations between the trade unions and the interior ministry administration on a rise in salaries fell though, the police in Bulgaria announced a national protest on Thursday, to take place in Sofia and Varna simultaneously.

The trade unions are demanding a retroactive rise in salaries, as from 1 February this year, whereas the interior ministry administration is only inclined to discuss a possible rise as of 1 January, 2018. Finance experts say that if the trade union demands are met, this would cost around 70 million euro within the space of one year.
