Efforts to extinguish big fire in Kresna Gorge renewed

People from two villages were evacuated, and the mayors of the municipalities of Kresna and Simitli declared a state of emergency in three populated areas after a raging fire destroyed over 700 hectares of mixed forests in Kresna Gorge within hours yesterday.

After the fire was localized during the night, efforts to extinguish it have today been renewed with two helicopters and a considerable amount of specialized technology joining in the effort. Interior Minister Vlanetin Radev heads the crisis headquarters.
