French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in the Bulgarian Black Sea city of Varna late last night. At the Evksinograd residence he is to hold meetings with Bulgarian President Rumen Radev and PM Boyko Borissov.

The main talking points during Macron's visit include the prospects facing the development of relations between Bulgaria and France, bilateral economic, investment and cultural cooperation, the protection of the EU’s external border, as well as the ideas for the future of Europe. The talks will also focus on the priorities in the upcoming Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU, the Western Balkans’ European prospects, as well as Bulgaria’s accession to Schengen and to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

Yesterday Emmanuel Macron was in Bucharest, where he discussed, with his Romanian counterpart Klaus Iohannis, the payment of East European workers in the wealthier countries of the EU. The French President cautioned that "social dumping" must be put an end to or the EU risks a "break-up".
