The surrounding world is a big color palette but not everyone could see the various shades. This is so because many people suffer from some form of color blindness. Some 300 million people across the world are color blind and their life is full of challenges, as they are also unable to occupy a number of jobs. However, a Bulgarian mobile application called Vision could help in solving some of these people’s problems. Stefan Krustev from the software company that produced the app told us more:
“I am a partner in Vision Technology where we work together with programmer Daniel Georgiev and Vasil Alyoshin. Our software can be used both on computers or smart phones. The app makes adjustments to the screen in order for a color blind person to distinguish between colors more easily. What is unique about our software is that it does the job in real time. There are other similar applications but they require using a camera.”
Currently we are having talks with various institutions that are to receive the software for free. Stefan says that the paid version of the software will be offered only abroad, where it has been actively used by some 10,000 people. After meetings with the mayor of Burgas and the district governor of Pernik it was decided that the software would be installed in the schools of both cities.
The Ministry of Education is also familiar with the innovative product and the company hopes the app will be available to all schools in the country in the autumn of 2017 and a lot of money will be saved as the regular price is 15 euros.
The program makes individual settings for anyone who uses it because it recognizes all kinds of color blindness. This is possible thanks to a test that is part of it. Thanks to the app, users will be able to watch movies and videos and play their favorite games. "Color vision for colorful people" is a slogan of the company that aims to help people with color blindness deal with everyday challenges.
Color blindness is not the only problem that young people from the company work on. They have developed another application that takes care of people's health. Here's what we learned about it:
“This is eye protection software. It's called Iris and works with all operating systems. It has over one million active users worldwide. It makes the use of computers, phones, and monitors harmless to the eyes by reducing harmful emissions, changing lighting settings on screens, thus also helping for better sleep.”
Investments in the IT sector must be a priority for this country, entrepreneurs and experts believe. In Bulgaria there are many specialists in this area and most of them have ideas and abilities that can be useful to society. With their help, bureaucracy and a number of challenges citizens face could be reduced.
