The topic about the mandatory military service remains open, Bulgaria’s Minister of Defense Krasimir Karakachanov said on Friday. According to Minister Karakachanov, most professional military men voiced the opinion that Bulgaria should not hurry abolishing military conscription. Krasimir Karakachanov underlined that compulsory military service still exists in countries such as Sweden, Austria, Switzerland, Greece and Turkey. In his words, the number of military training classes at the Bulgarian schools must increase, because currently the theoretical military training classes last for 5 hours on an annual basis only.
