The European Commission has presented its specific recommendations for the economic policies of member states, including Bulgaria, within European Semester 2017. In order to achieve sustainable economic growth and to improve the standard of living of Bulgarian citizens, Bulgaria is urged to accelerate its structural reform program. The EC takes note of the progress made in strengthening the banking system, but believes that more work is needed to overcome the remaining weaknesses in the financial sector, such as the high level of bad loans.
