Bulgaria’s printed media accentuate on Wednesday on the meeting between Bulgaria’s nominee for EU Commissioner Maria Gabriel and EC President Jean Claude Juncker. The President of the European Commission was satisfied with the discussion with Bulgaria’s nominee, Standard daily frontpages a headline on May 17. Jean Claude Juncker announced that Maria Gabriel will be in charge of the digital economy and society sector, the newspaper further informs. It means that Bulgaria’s new EU Commissioner will be supporting the fulfillment of the strategy for the single digital market adopted by the European Commission in May 2015. On May 10 this year the EC presented a mid-term review of that strategy. The purpose of that strategy is to establish a single digital market that would lay the foundations of Europe’s digital future which includes telecommunication networks of continental dimension, cross-border digital services and a wave of innovative European start-up companies. Sega daily accentuates that Maria Gabriel’s interview with Jean Claude Juncker was a formal procedure to a great extent and that it was only the first step towards her appointment as EU Commissioner. The EC President sent a letter to the President of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani, in order to inform him about his intention to appoint Maria Gabriel as the next EU Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society. Later, Bulgaria’s nominee will face her most difficult challenge- to present her vision about the development of the digital economy in the presence of the MEPs. Maria Gabriel is also to answer questions asked by the MEPs at the European Parliament. 24 Chassa daily quotes Maria Gabriel: “I would like to thank the President of the European Commission Jean Claude Juncker for his trust and for allowing me to be in charge of such an important sector at the EC that is connected with the future of our economies, societies and the future of Europe as a whole. Regardless of whether we are talking about security, education, business or professional development we should fully benefit from all available digital instruments”.
