Terrorism, Brexit likely to transform tourism industry: expert Patrick White

Expert Patrick White who was interviewed by the Bulgarian National Radio Horizont Channel said that terrorism as well as Britain’s exiting the European Union were likely to transform tourism and the airline industry. Tourist flows could be redirected, and Chinese tourists to Europe will grow in number following alleviation of the visa regime. The expert also pointed to India and its emerging middle class that will increasingly turn to tourism services. Asked about possible Brexit consequences limiting the freedom of movement in Europe, Patrick White commented that hundreds of British tourists visit countries like Bulgaria, Spain and France, so it was not very likely to see visa restrictions introduced, but added any predictions might turn wrong. Terrorism, according to the British expert, is another strong factor to influence the holiday industry. He pointed to a rapid loss of appeal that Turkey suffered in the wake of terrorist acts there and a redirection of tourists to Spain, Portugal and Italy. Patrick White also recalled that attacks in Paris and Brussels had hurt their markets as tourist destinations. London, where in the latest attack tourists were killed as well, has proven a very attractive tourist destination in a sustainable way.
