Some 143 children of migrants are currently studying in Bulgarian schools and 24 attend kindergarten. The data was reported in Sofia by caretaker Education Minister Nikolai Denkov during an international conference on the topic of "The Road of Migrants - problems and solutions in their integration through educational systems."

Like all children whose mother tongue is not Bulgarian, children of migrants are provided with additional training in Bulgarian language. Together with the UN High Commissioner for refugees in 2016 a special training for teachers to work with children who are seeking international protection was conducted. In April this year teachers will pass a training for teaching Bulgarian as a foreign language.
