“There is corruption in Bulgaria, but I could not say that Bulgaria is the most corrupt country in the EU”, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev told Euronews TV channel in the wake of latest negative assessment of Bulgaria by Transparency International. “Bulgaria is making efforts to fight corruption but I am sure we need to make much bigger efforts, we need to bring together the efforts of institutions, political parties, civil society organizations and the entire country”, he added. Regarding EU sanctions against Russia, the head of state said: “Of course the Crimea annexation was a violation of international law – and Bulgaria firmly supports all principles of international law. The big question is how long Europe will remain divided by sanctions which undermine trust – 5 years, 10 years, 50 years.” The president is taking part starting today until 19 February in the Munich Security Conference. Discussions in the capital of Bavaria will go across the migration crisis in Europe, European defense prospects, the situation in the Middle East and combating terrorism.
