We count on greater involvement of all EU countries and support to Bulgaria in case of a sharp rise of the migrant wave and on support for Schengen membership.

This is what Bulgarian President Rumen Radev said at a joint press conference after talks with German President Joachim Gauck in Berlin. Rumen Radev, who is on an official visit to Germany, has pointed out that this country has fulfilled all technical requirements for Schengen membership and has proven that it protects the external borders of the EU according to Schengen criteria.

President Radev said Sofia relied on even greater European solidarity, not only when it comes to assistance with people, equipment and resources, but also as a long-term operational planning for dealing with the migrant crisis. Joachim Gauck said Germany hoped that fight against corruption in Bulgaria will be successful.
