Legendary Bulgarian boxer Boris Georgiev a.k.a. Mokata has died at the age of 87. Georgiev was the first Bulgarian athlete to have won an Olympic medal for Bulgaria – a bronze in the 75 kilogram weight class (boxing) at the Olympics in Helsinki in 1952.
Mokata started boxing in 1945 and took part in three European championships – in Warsaw in 1953, in West Berlin in 1955 and in Prague in 1957. He took part in Olympic Games twice – in Helsinki in 1952 and in Melbourne in 1956. He was among the torch bearers for the 2004 Olympics in Athens.
