The Sofia Philharmonic organizes a concert on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of Alexander Vladigerov’s The Merry Town Musicians musical’s premiere. The initial show took place at the Youth Theatre downtown Sofia in 1971. The musical quickly gained popularity and not only among its target audience – the children. The witty music jokes, the humorous lyrics and the really incredible mastery of the composer have turned the piece of art into a hit over decades. In 2013 the Pioneer Philharmonic, conducted by Lyubomir Denev Jr. had two concerts alongside singers who used to be yet students at the Pancho Vladigerov National Academy of Music.

We are about to see and listen to the jazz fairytale for all ages on January 16 at the Bulgaria Hall. The concert involves the composer’s sons – Konstantin /piano/ and Alexander /trumpet and flugelhorn/. Being famous and wanted musicians they are accompanied by also popular Stoyan Yankulov – drums, Nedyalko Nedylakov /shepherd’s flute/ and Dimitar Karamfilov /contrabass/. The part of Maestro Donkey will be played by remarkable actor Rashko Mladenov, Maestro Dog will be played by Borislav Vezhenov, Maestra Cat – by Preya and Maestro Rooster – by Denko Prodanov. The city’s orchestra, represented by the Sofia Philharmonic will be conducted by Lyubomir Denev Jr.

The January 16 concert is part of the charity campaign in support of the people, who suffered losses at the railway incident in the village of Hitrino a few weeks ago, so the tickets’ prices are lower – EUR 3. The organizers and performing artists call on the audience to donate the difference to the actual value, or to give even more. The fundraising will take place at a certain spot in the lobby of the Bulgaria Hall and later on the money collected shall be handed over to the Red Cross.
