The European Commission has decided to refer to the EU Court of Justice over the fact that Bulgaria has failed to meet the requirement to establish a single unit for contact, ensuring necessary exchange of information under EU legislation. The requirement concerns security of documents. The contact department serves for providing exchange of information enabling access to images and fingerprints stored in electronic passports and residence permits of third country nationals. The lack of this unit in the country deprives other Member States from the option of secure access and verification of fingerprints stored in the chip of Bulgarian passports. Moreover, the European Commission wants Bulgaria to introduce the current European regulations for financial reporting.
