The runoff of presidential elections in Bulgaria begins at 7 AM local time today between the two presidential candidates and their running mates who won the first round of the elections for president on 6 November. Rumen Radev with running mate Iliana Iotova is nominated by an initiative committee and supported by the Bulgarian Socialist Party and Tsetska Tsacheva with running mate Plamen Manushev – by the ruling party GERB.
According to voter lists there are 6,834,278 people in the country entitled to vote. There are 12,418 polling stations in Bulgaria and a total of 325 abroad in 71 countries. Just as with the first round, the presidential runoff is being observed by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation, the central election commissions of Latvia and Kosovo and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. Five polling agencies have been registered for parallel vote tabulation. Election day ends at 8 PM local time, but according to the election code voting can be extended by one hour if the need arises.
