The first mandatory elections will be held in Bulgaria in several days. However, it is still unclear how voters will be excused, in case they do not go to the polling stations, the Spokesperson for the Central Election Commission Aleksandar Andreev said. According to the election code, people who do not exercise their voting rights on two consecutive elections of the same type, would be erased from the electoral lists, Sega daily informs on Tuesday, November 1. According to the Central Election Commission, each case will be assessed individually, Capital daily writes on its first pages.

Bulgaria imported Polish eggs contaminated with salmonella enteritidis, the Polish food safety authorities confirmed. The Polish authorities announced that 9 out of 12 samples proved the existence of that dangerous bacterium. The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency has already withdrawn those eggs from the commercial network.

US giant American International Group is to leave Bulgaria’s insurance business. The step is part of the company’s decision to exit small markets. Canadian Fairfax Financial Holdings will buy the shares of AIG, Capital daily informs.

Sega daily reminds on Tuesday that as of today, November 1, all Bulgarian hospitals are obliged to take finger prints of their patients. Despite the problems and the long queues during the experimental period which started in July, the National Health Insurance Fund contends that the process already got back to normal.

The authorities are helpless without the assistance of experts and scientists, President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences Academician Stefan Vodenicharov said in an interview for Trud daily on the Day of the National Revival Leaders. Bulgaria can flourish with the help of highly-educated people. Nowadays, some people call themselves patriots and shout out loudly I Love Bulgaria. However, patriots are those who work for their country, Academician Vodenicharov went on to say.
