“The liberalisation of visas (with Bulgaria and Romania) will only work if we have an agreement between the EU and Canada - if the trade agreement is adopted,” said European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker. He added he was disappointed with the results of the EU summit, stating he was astounded nobody was against a free trade agreement with Vietnam or China but were against an agreement with Canada and USA.

A little while before that the Bulgarian government press service announced that Bulgaria and Romania were withdrawing their objections to the EU-Canada Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) after Ottawa provided written assurances that visas for their citizens would be abolished by the end of 2017.
