None of the EU financing allotted to Bulgaria last week will be used for construction of border fences, the spokeswoman of the European Commission Natasha Berto announced on Monday. In her words, the EU granted EUR 108 million to Bulgaria under the funds for urgent needs. The money will be used for border protection, purchase of technical equipment and construction of new migrant centers. Last Friday the European Commission approved Bulgaria’s request for financial support, which was filed a day earlier. The EC announced that it would discuss the request for another EUR 52 million which would be used for the same purposes.
