After talks with PM Boyko Borissov in Sofia, Lieutenant General Mark Schissler, Deputy Chairman of the NATO Military Committee stated that Bulgaria was a loyal member of NATO and that he valued its contribution and importance to the alliance. 
The Bulgarian Prime Minister stated on his part that the government was making every effort to modernize the army and cited as an example Bezmer military airport where the most modern airstrip was recently made operational. Borissov added that by a balanced policy and by keeping up contact with neighbouring countries at different levels, Bulgaria has managed to preserve a relative calm along its borders despite the problems they are having.
