Ardino fire now under control

Photo: BGNES

The fire that destroyed 200 ha of forests near the village of Svetulka near the southeastern town of Ardino has been under control since last night, Yulian Rusev from the Regional Forest Directorate has told the Bulgarian National Radio. He said the fire was localized at 11 PM yesterday. The army with about 50 troops is expected to help contain the fire. The weather is windless, so rescuers will most probably finish the job by tomorrow. On Friday the flames threatened to reach homes in the village but firemen, volunteers and the workers from the local forestry company curbed the fire. Two persons have been detained on suspicion of arson.
