A fire is raging over an area of 100 hectares of coniferous forest between the villages of Svetoulka and Ahryansko near Ardino in Southern Bulgaria. There are 140 police officers, forest rangers and volunteers in place to stop the fire from spreading, as well as two helicopters and ten fire trucks. Prime Minister Boyko Borissov has issued instructions for additional equipment and crews to be dispatched if the need arises. At this time there are no data of casualties or people at risk. The conflagration was most probably caused by a fire going out of control.
More than 35 forest fires have broken out in the past ten days, destroying 300 hectares of woodland, the Executive Forest Agency has informed the Bulgarian National Radio.
