Unique fossils found at Bulgaria-Greece border

Photo: library

Giant fossils of turtles and a snake were found near the Bulgaria-Greece border on the territory of Kirkovo Municipality, South Bulgaria. They are part of a very large complex consisting of hundreds of other fossils. The fossils were found literally several meters away from the former border fence. They were discovered accidentally by a foreign tourist who shared some photos of the fossils on the Internet. The local administration in Kirkovo has already made photos of the fossils and sent them for further exploration to Bulgarian scientists. According to a recent idea, eco pathways leading to the newly-discovered fossils may be built with money under the Cross-border Cooperation Programme.
