“I want Bulgaria to be a proud member of the European Union. That’s the only way for us to guarantee our prosperity and to guarantee our safety and security,” said President Rosen Plevneliev in an interview for Global Conversation on Euronews.

The Bulgarian President stressed that Bulgaria has made remarkable progress. “If you take a look at the per capita GDP ratio, fifteen years ago Bulgaria was 27 percent of the average for the EU. Yes, we are the poorest, but today we have 47 percent,” he said.

The Bulgarian President emphasized that the country will continue to be part of the efforts for a common policy regarding migrants and to contribute to the common European solution. Answering a question about Russia, President Plevneliev stressed that he was worried by Russia’s intervention in the Ukraine crisis as well as its ambitions as a world power demanding that its spheres of interest be respected.
