There is a lot of space for development of social economy in the spheres of services and production, Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Ivaylo Kalfin said at the opening of the Fifth European Forum on Social Entrepreneurship. According to the minister, social economy was of high importance, but in Bulgaria it formed less than 1% of GDP, while there were countries where it reached 7-8 percent of GDP. Kalfin also explained that this type of economic activity allowed people with disabilities to work and to feel useful. There are a number of such companies and cooperatives in this country that have been working for decades and have plenty of experience, but need support because they have problems with marketing of their high-quality products. That is why the state has allocated some 28 million euros to create a fund that would buy these products and this would lead to investments in social economy, the minister added.
