Several days after the demolition of the tobacco store building in Plovdiv (Central South Bulgaria), which was previously declared a cultural monument, another scandal erupted in the town of Harmanli (Southeastern Bulgaria), following the demolition of a one hundred year-old building which was also used as a tobacco store. According to civil organizations, the emblematic building was declared cultural monument back in 1977. According to Harmanli Municipality, however, the building was not included in the register of the immovable cultural valuables. The dispute will be resolved by a commission which is also investigating the demolition of the tobacco store in Plovdiv. The building was demolished on February 21 by order of Harmanli mayor Maria Kirkova.
