Club life in Bulgaria started developing after the 90s of the 20th century. Bands doing covers of popular rock, funk and pop bands emerged and some started creating music especially for the club audience. This is how the Dirty Purchase band formed and days ago it presented its first album. The name of the band is actually wordplay with the way the Bulgarian expression for “old billy goats” sounds. The explanation is that at the beginning the band included just men and did not take themselves too seriously. Lyudmil Stoinev, pianist of Dirty Purchase told us more:

If we are to look for a reason to release an album, this is the 20th anniversary since the creation of Dirty Purchase. It all started in 1996 in a club in Sofia. In addition to the main stage, another stage opened and someone needed to play every evening. The owner of the club Hristoslav Galileev, who is bassist decided to create a band that was to play each night. He invited fellow musicians with whom he had worked abroad. The name of the band was given by Vesko from the Nestinari band, who is not among us unfortunately. He was a great musician and friend. More than 20 different musicians have performed in Dirty Purchase over the years.

Currently Dirty Purchase includes some of the most renowned names from the Bulgarian scene – Mihail Yosiofov and Todor Bakardzhiev – trumpets, Velislav Stoyanov and Kiril Zafirov – trombones, Denis Popstoev – saxophone, Ivan Lechev – guitar, and others. Lets listen to one of the original pieces of the band included in the album. The song is called Heat Inside.

Here is more from Lyudmil Stoinev:

Initially the band focused on performing blues and swing covers. Later singers Emil Minchev from the Ahead band joined, as well as Amalia Nenova. Together with drummer Nikolay Danev – Mr. Brown Sugar they contributed to the funky sound of the Dirty Purchase. Each member of the band gives ideas for new songs in the repertoire that we discuss together. This is a big band that can sometime include 10 people. I can say this is the first Bulgarian band from the 90s that introduced this brass model on the club stage.

How did the band decide to record an album after 20 years on stage?

During the past few years we started composing some pieces and lyrics during rehearsals but we did not plan to turn all this into an album. That is how we created "All Your Love," "Knock, Knock," "Heat Inside." Our first original song was Sweet Sensation that we presented in the Golden Spring music contest of the Bulgarian National Radio years ago. That is why the whole album was named Sweet Sensation. A few covers were also included in it. A number of the songs in this album were actually recorded during a concert in the BNR.
