Bulgarians compete to play at biggest metal music festival in the world – Wacken

The circle has been a symbol of completeness since ancient times. It is one of the most widely spread mythological symbols expressing a feeling of unity. Since the very beginning of their work together, this has been exactly the way the five members of the Full Circle feel. According to them, having different musical tastes is not an obstacle to the success of the band.

“The different tastes make us look towards finding something in common,” says vocalist Jamie Rashed. “All day long we listen to various types of rock music. This way we exchange ideas and develop our own style. With every new album a band rediscovers itself. Currently the music we create is a reflection of ourselves. In two years we might be very different.”

The band includes Dan Valentino /guitar/, Alex Valeriev /guitar/, Anton Piperov /bass/, Zhivodar Dimitrov /drums/ and vocalist Jamie, who joined the band three years ago.

This autumn Full Circle are to present their first album. It is entirely in English, but the musicians are convinced that their fans listen to foreign bands who also write songs in the language of Shakespeare. "It is more important to feel the music than to understand everything,” says Jamie Rashed, author of the lyrics.

"Most of our songs should be interpreted freely. Some of them carry a certain mood, and we also sing about social issues. When I write lyrics, I draw inspiration from life. When I hear a melody I start hearing the lyrics and know the emotion I want to convey. For me it is important to have good music. For example, if there was no capable drummer in the band, everything would fall apart. A song should have a stable structure, otherwise no matter how good the lyrics are, the message would not reach to the listener.”

The band decided to produce their album alone in order for them to sound the way they like. They promote their music through social networks. Dan Valentino told us more about the commercial side of making music.

"There is a U.S. band called Alter Bridge that is a perfect example of achieving a balance when speaking about the commercial side of things. There are songs in their albums that would easily appeal to larger audience but in 90 percent of their songs they remain true to their specific style. Our music is not too easy to digest, but we also don’t want it to be incomprehensible.”

Full Circle have already focused on the upcoming Jagermeister - Kavarna Battle of the Bands. It gives new bands a chance to participate in the 10th anniversary of the biggest rock festival in Bulgaria. Whether the band would perform on the stage of Kavarna, the boys will know in May, but this is not the only challenge they face. They need to win another "metal battle” and the prize is participating in the biggest heavy metal festival in the world - Wacken. Full Circle are one of the three bands that have reached the final stage of the Bulgarian selection.
