Merudia Band gathers friends at Funplugged concert

БНР Новини

On December 18 Merudia reggae band, together with friends and associates, are to hold a concert entitled Funplugged. We learn more details about the event from the band’s guitarist Vesselin Yovchev:

“Undoubtedly, this will be the concert of the year for us. It will be held jointly wit the boys from the DRS band. All who are interested in Bulgarian hip-hop know that these musicians are true legends. We will also enjoy the stage performance of another popular band - Knockout. Our goal is to make a special event this year. Usually the hip-hop concerts are held in the following format: The MCs, i.e. the performers who do the rapping simultaneously with the beet go out on the stage with their rhymes and a DJ plays the instrumentals. We are to replace the DJ by playing these pieces live on the stage with the Merudia band. The music is oriented towards the following styles: jungle, dancehall, reggae, dub and hip-hop. For the purpose, reggae musician Jahmmi Youth, the Egotrip rap band and Fall Monke DJ will join the event. We call the concert Funplugged, because it will not be completely unplugged.”

Minimum Stress is the first piece of Merudia Band which has hip-hop elements. More from Vesselin Yovchev:

“We play reggae and mix African rhythms with Bulgarian elements. Merudia band is actually a sextet. Nikolai Bakalov plays on the drums, Petar Todorov is on the percussions and I play the guitar. Currently Kristina Serafimova is our front woman and Yoana Ivanova is on the bass guitar. The sixth member of the band Hristian Goergiev plays the shepherd’s flute, as well as the key-flute (melodica), so we have the typical reggae sounds too. Thanks to the shepherd’s flute our music compositions acquire a slight folklore sounding. Our music also contains hip-hop. Hristian Georgiev is in charge of this style. He has been making experiments for a long time through mixing both styles (reggae and hip-hop).”

Thus, the Merudia Band spices up the Bulgarian stage with its sounding and rhythms. The band holds concerts outside Sofia each month. On December 26 it is to hit the stage in Veliko Tarnovo. On December 27 Merudia will be performing in Russe.
