Tango Without Borders is a concert from the playbill of the European Music Festival. The intriguing title stands for an unusual program that will be presented on 9 April by Tanguarda Group. The group has been known to Bulgarian audiences since 2009 when it guest-performed for the first time in this country, and in 2012 joined the March Music Days Festivals in the Danube city of Rousse. Tanguarda founder and leader is young Bulgarian pianist Maria Martinova based in Belgium. She has graduated from Juilliard School in New York and from the Royal Academy of Music in London. She has specialized in tango music in Rotterdam.

Other projects of Maria Martinova include Paris, Buenos Aries, a Love Story in which the pianist teamed up with violinist Cyril Garac. The program was recorded at Studio No. 1 of the Bulgarian National Radio. Now the two musicians are working on an album of the same name. More about the concert on 9 April, from Maria Martinova:

“I am always happy to present the colleagues whom I work with, because they are very good musicians and I am happy to work with them. For more than a year Tanguarda is lucky to have on its lineup Marcelo Nisinman, a bandoneon player and composer. He is internationally acclaimed and has worked with a constellation of performers such as Martha Argerich, Gidon Kremer, Gary Burton etc. The Bulgarian audiences will also listen to Daniel Rowland, leader of the celebrated Brodski Quartet. Winfried Hlzenkamp on the double bass, a student of Hector Console, one of the stage partners of Astor Piazzolla whose music is a source of inspiration for us. The repertoire that we have prepared is quite interesting including a few works of Piazzolla performed in Marcelo’s arrangements. Some works will be performed for the first time in public. For me playing music in Bulgaria is tantamount to a great excitement. I give concerts across Europe but the Bulgarian stage is something very special, and I feel that I have to prove my excellence every time.”
