Fifteen years ago bulky mobile phones with monochromatic displays that allowed you to send text messages were the cutting edge in the field of communications. Today, we take the mobile phone for granted and choose between devices with functions we are not even acquainted with. Tiny chips store hundreds of gigabytes of data and wireless Internet connection is a must.

Mobile technology and communications have noticeably changed the world. But what can we really expect in the future? The Mobcon conference which will be held for the first time in Bulgaria on April 5 tries to give answers to these questions.

"This is a conference on mobile technologies and programing mobile devices. The conference will be held for the first time in Bulgaria on April 5 in Sofia. The two previous editions of Mobcon took place in Minneapolis, USA. The event aims to bring together experts from global companies, leaders in their sphere, such as Google, Soundcloud, Mozilla. These speakers will meet with experts from Bulgaria and the region who are interested in mobile technology. More than 20 lectures related to software development for mobile devices, monetization of mobile applications, application design, etc. will be presented.”

We asked Mr. Lyubchev about the newest developments in the sphere and the trends in mobile technology.

"In recent years there has been a boom in the number of smartphones. There are more than 1.7 billion smartphones in use worldwide and in 2017 their number is expected to reach 2.5 billion. In addition to smartphones many other mobile devices such as tablets, smart watches and others are gaining popularity. Soon even household appliances will have their own operating system and this is a huge market that will continue to grow. The so-called 'wearables' or everyday objects that have their own operating system have also been gaining popularity. Such devices can check if we walk properly, our pulse and many other interesting things that can improve our lives."

Significant number of Bulgarians use smartphones in their daily lives and these devices have been gradually becoming an essential tool for accessing information. Users of smartphones, tablets and other mobile device can already listen to the programs of the Bulgarian National Radio, using a new free mobile application that is available on GooglePlay. Soon Radio Bulgaria will also offer listeners a mobile app.

Bulgaria is a country with a number of talented computer experts, but the rapid development of technology makes this number insufficient. Analysts say the industry will have growing demand for experts in the field of mobile technology. Bulgarian students will also participate in Mobcon, along with developers and experts from around the world. During the event, the finalists in a competition for the most innovative idea or prototype of a mobile application will be presented and the three best projects will receive a cash prize. The aim is to stimulate the development of young experts in the field of mobile technology.
