Flu epidemic overtakes one third of Bulgaria

An influenza epidemic has been declared in one third of Bulgaria’s territory, said Angel Kunchev, chief state health inspector. So far, the flu is proceeding normally, without mass or unexpected complications. In 80% of the cases, medics diagnose the well-known swine flu virus and in the remaining cases - the Victoria strain. During the epidemic, between 5 and 15% of the population stay home in bed, global studies show. Regarding Bulgaria, these percentages mean between 365,000 and 1.1 million people staying home sick in bed.
