Grigor Dimitrov continues to climb in the ATP rankings.The Bulgarian reached for the first time in his career the quarter final of the Australian Open. Dimitrov won 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 against Roberto Bautista-Agut. Dimitrov's serve played an important role in the victory with the Bulgarian slamming 11 aces. In the next round Dimitrov would face world’s top tennis player Rafael Nadal, who won against Kei Nishikori from Japan.

Tsvetana Pironkova reached the second round of the Australian Open for women. The Bulgarian lost 2-6, 0-6 against Australian Samantha Stosur 2-6, 0-6. The match started well for the Bulgarian but later the US Open champion in 2011 took the initiative and achieved victory. Pironkova still added 70 points for the world rank list.

Petya Nedelcheva reached the semifinals in singles at the international badminton tournament in Uppsala (Sweden). The Bulgarian lost 16:21, 21:14, 10:21 against Kirsty Gilmour of Scotland and grabbed the bronze medal of the tournament. Bulgaria won another bronze in the tournament after Stephanie Stoeva and Gabriela Stoeva reached the semifinals in doubles. The sisters lost 15:21, 19:21 against L.D. Kruse and M. Roepke from Denmark.

Krasimir Anev finished seventh in the 12.5 km pursuit of the men's Biathlon World Championships in the Antholz - Anterselva resort in Italy. Anev finished in a time of 31:38.7 minutes without making a shooting mistake. Simon Schempp of Germany won the race with a time of 31:20.6 minutes and two errors in the shooting. Jean-Guillaume Beatrix of France placed second and third ranked Henrik L'Abée-Lund from Norway.

Bulgarian wrestler Alexander Kostadinov won the bronze medal in the IvanPoddubnyTournament in Tyumen (Russia). In the 59-kg category Kostadinov achieved four victories. At the semifinals of the prestigious tournament the Bulgarian lost against Ivan Kuylyakov from Russia, who won gold in the category.

Kaloyan Mahlyanov Kotooshu performed well at the sumo tournament in Tokyo last week. The Bulgarian achieved victory in the eighth round and has five wins and three losses. The other Bulgarian representative Daniel Ivanov - Aoiyama has three wins and five losses. The two Bulgarians met in a previous round of the tournament and the winner of the contested clash became Kaloyan Mahlianov.
