The three regions in the European Union with the highest standardised death rate in 2021 were all in Bulgaria, EU statistics agency Eurostat said. In the South-West region (Yugozapaden) the death rate is 390 deaths per 100 000 people, in the North-Central region (Severen Tsentralen) it is 387 deaths per 100 000 people and in the North-East (Severoiztochen) it is 366 per 100,000.
